Another Valentine's Day, another post about outfits inspired by my favorite musicians' songs. In last year's post, I did a collection of Queen-inspired outfits. This year, I composed four different outfits based off of songs from each one of The 1975's albums. I hope you enjoys today's posts as much as I enjoyed making these outfits. Happy Valentine's Day to all of you, no matter how you're spending it!
Stole My Heart
("Robbers")
From their self-titled debut album, probably the most classic The 1975 song is"Robbers." The music video is just as iconic as the song and has gotten some inspiration from the 1993 film True Romance. A quote from band frontman, Matty Healy, from an article by Digital Spy:
"Robbers' is about a heist that goes wrong - I suppose you can read it as a metaphor - and a girl who's obsessed with her professional killer boyfriend. It's a romantic ideal."

Because of the themes of the video and song, I chose a more darker look that used blacks and reds. It's kinda a good representation of their first album as a whole.
I chose this red blouse with black polka dots and balloon sleeves from Zara and a black leather skirt from Forever 21. And for accessories, I chose black patent loafers by Franco Sarto, a white Gucci cross body bag, and gold hoop earrings from TopShop. You can wear your outfit with a simple but stunning makeup look, composing of a red lip and black winged liner.
Iconic Lyric:
She says, babe, you look so cool You look so cool, you look so cool You look so cool, you look so cool You look so cool
Loving you
("Loving Someone")
Off their sophomore album I Like It When You Sleep, For You Are So Beautiful Yet So Unaware Of It comes "Loving Someone." A song the band has dedicated to the LGBTQ+ community. Their visuals for this song at lives shows projects the Pride Flag. The song is more of an observation of society and culture that is hard to catch up on at first, but it's hard to ignore the powerful chorus.
Here is a quote from Showbiz Cheatsheet about the song:
"Following the mass shooting at the Pulse Nightclub in Orlando, The 1975 dedicated “Loving Someone” to members of the LGBTQ+ community. The group projected a pride flag behind them during a performance of “Loving Someone,” which eventually became a trademark of the song and of their live shows."

For this outfit, I chose a look that was perfect for a daytime into a nighttime outing. It's a simple sleeveless white button up from ASOS paired with paper bag style corduroy pants. I thought it would be cool to throw in some platform Steve Madden sandals and cute on theme tote. It's easy to style, too. Just throw on a gold statement coin necklace, pop on a pastel glitter shadow, some classic shades, and a spritz of perfume, and you're ready to conquer the day with love for whoever it may be. Your lover, yourself, or everyone.
Iconic Chorus:
Yeah, you should be loving someone Oh, oh, loving someone Yeah, you should be loving someone Oh, oh, loving someone Yeah, you should be
Be Mine
("Mine")
On their latest fully released album, A Brief Inquiry Into Online Relationships, this song comes up as an unexpected jazz number, but oh how do I love it. The song is about a guy feeling he doesn't need to prove his love to his significant other by marrying her, because he knows that they won't leave each other since they are so in love. It is such a beautiful song and includes a lovely trumpet solo by the late Roy Hargrove, making his last.
Matt Healy explained to Pitchfork how this song came about.
"I always use the magpie analogy: a magpie will collect a diamond or a piece of glass or a piece of foil—it doesn't matter, as long as it's shiny and attractive. It's the same thing with us—as long as it's beautiful.

For this look, I wanted to play on the theme of marriage, so I picked this babydoll-styled dress from Zara. It's in this slightly off-white floral textured fabric, and I'm absolutely in love with it! I styled it simply with a nude heel, and to bring in a subtle touch of color, I added a baby blue Chanel bag. For some added touches you can add some drop earrings and a light blush for a natural makeup look.
Iconic Chorus:
There comes a time in a young man's life He should settle down and find himself a wife But I'm just fine 'cause I know that you're mine
Me & You. Forever.
("Me & You Together Song")
This is the latest single dropped by the band for their forth coming album Notes On A Conditional Form. All the singles they have released so far have differed in genre, and this one sounds straight out of a 90s coming-of-age film. It's a genuinely a cute song with cute music video, and I can't tell which one exudes more adorability.
When they first released the song by playing it live on BBC Radio 1, in the live interview that followed, Matty explains how the song came about.
"I was writing a film at some point, and then, I wanted a song for it. And then, we were kinda like "Notes On A Conditional Form" has been this almost like retrospective experience at times. We kinda have been looking back at where we came from musically. This just felt like the kind of music we grew up with."

I was really excited to pick out a vintage/ 90s themed outfit. I wanted the outfit to be kind of easy-going, relaxed, and straight out of a 90s film with cute movie and milkshake dates. I paired my favorite pair of flares by a brand called Disclosed that I got from a local boutique with an adorable pink polka dot tank top from Zara. I also added the white Commes Des Garcon Converse with the iconic heart logo and a pink corduroy oversized jacket to add some more flare to the outfit. With this one, you can go all out with the 90s theme and wear clips in your hair and bold, vibrant earrings. Throw on a subtle lip color and pop of shadow, and you're set. I just don't recommend trying out the 90s brow trend, though, haha.
Iconic Chorus:
I've been in love with her for ages And I can't seem to get it right I fell in love with her in stages My whole life
That's all I have for today! This post was a stressful one to follow after the Oscars post, especially with my phone being broken and not being able to take pictures of the outfits and edit them until very late at night. On the bright side, I enjoyed creating the looks and editing the photos with fun designs. I'm hoping to take a small break after this three post run and focus on myself for a bit. Then, I would like to come back a lot less stressed and make a lot more great posts for you guys! I hope you have a great Valentine's Day, Galentine's Day, or whatever else you wanna call it day. But sometimes, you don't need someone to make you happy, you just need the The 1975.
