Hey there! So, Sunday was the climax of award season. That's right, the 91st Academy Awards took place this weekend which means us saying a final goodbye to this year's amazing films and the great impact they made on audiences. I stayed tuned into the show from 5:30-10:17 which is crazy considering the first Academy Awards only took an unbelievable fifteen minutes. In today's post, I'm giving you the coverage of the Oscars. I've got my red carpet picks, the winners and snubs, and (mostly) talk about Queen. So let's dive in, because there's a lot to cover on Hollywood's biggest night for film.

Red Carpet Looks

Opening Performance by Queen

Queen made their own history by performing for the first time on live television since the iconic Live Aid. The remaining members of Queen, Brian May and Roger Taylor, performed with Adam Lambert to open the Oscars which had no host this year. They played two of their most iconic songs. From beginning to end, people we’re enjoying themselves. The audience sang and joined into "We Will Rock You" and moved along to "We Are the Champions." The band received a standing ovation following a surprise appearance of Freddie Mercury on the back screen. It was definitely one of the best moments of the night.

WINNERS!!!

"This is not going to happen again and any little girl who’s practising her speech on the telly, you never know!"-Olivia Colman during her acceptance speech.

Let's discuss the real reasons for the Oscars. We gather to commemorate achievements in film, and those who inspire audiences across the globe. Here are the winners:

Best Supporting Actress: Regina King (If Beale Street Could Talk), Best Documentary Feature: Free Solo, Best Makeup and Hairstyling: Vice, Best Costume Design: Black Panther, Best Production Design: Black Panther, Best Cinematography: Roma, Best Sound Editing: Bohemian Rhapsody, Best Sound Mixing: Bohemian Rhapsody, Best Foreign Language Film: Roma; Mexico, Best Film Editing: Bohemian Rhapsody, Best Supporting Actor: Mahershala Ali (Green Book), Best Animated Feature Film: Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, Best Animated Short Film: Bao, Best Documentary Short Subject: Period. End of Sentence., Best Visual Effects: First Man, Best Live Action Short Film: Skin, Best Original Screenplay: Green Book, Best Adapted Screenplay: BlacKkKlansman, Best Original Score: Black Panther, Best Original Song: A Star Is Born, Best Actor in a Leading Role: Rami Malek (Bohemian Rhapsody), Best Actress in a Leading Role: Olivia Colman (The Favourite), Best Director: Alfonso Cuaron (Roma), Best Picture: Green Book

Bohemian Rhapsody picked up the most awards at the Oscars with a total of four out of five of their nominations. That includes Best Actor in a Leading Role for the well-deserving, Oscar new-comer Rami Malek. If there was an award for Best Kiss, it would go to Rami Malek and Lucy Boynton. Rami gives an amazing speech, thanking his immigrant parents, Freddie Mercury, and Lucy Boyton, who’s captured his heart.

This year’s Oscars took a big step towards diversity. Green Book took a surprising win for Best Picture with predictions going to The Favourite or Roma. This resulted in a lot of controversy. Spike Lee, a well-known film maker, won his first real Oscar in his 30 year long career. Olivia Colman also took a surprising win with the odds favoring Glenn Close. Glenn Close was thought to win after recieving seven nominations in her career but no wins. Black Panther showed out with three wins, alongside Roma and Green Book.

Conclusion

I had so much fun watching this year's Academy Awards, and I'm actually sad that it‘s over. There won’t be anymore loving posts from the Bohemian Rhapsody cast or them with Queen, but here's to many more great films and performances by these lovely humans. I know that this post is mostly centered on Queen, but who's surprised? This is what I love doing, and I went through an emotional rollercoaster watching the Academy Awards. Love you guys and congrats to all the winners and nominees.
